| Dear friends, | ||
| Most of you have only ever watched the Olympic games on TV...so I thought I'll try to bring you some of the "spirit" of this amazing atmosphere... | ||
| --Athens has been transformed into a clean, efficient, friendly city. Water-foundens, parks and flowers everywhere. Metro that connects Monastiraki with the Airport... | ||
| --Athletic parks like OAKA and ELLINIKO are so good that you can walk around for ever... | ||
| --Athletic venus like the Beach Volley court located next to the sea... | ||
| --Cameramen were trying to capture and report the Greek Athenian life...(unfortunately for them, life in Athens does not stop at 2 or 3 or 4 in the morning...it simply does not stop...) | ||
| --Apparently, there is a huge "pin-culture". Collectors buy pins at every Olympic game and then sell them or exchange them at the following games...Each pin costs around 8 euros. | ||
|
--The foreigners walking around Athens were mostly the "support team" of the athletes (proudly wearing t-shirts with flags of their countries).. Not many traditional tourists could be found...but yet again, why would a traditional tourist stay in Athens for more than one day when he/she can go to so many islands? |
||
| ` | --A huge tattoo-fashion...all ages and all countries | |
| --Greeks are known for the hospitality but not for volunteering...This time though, thanks to a colourful t-shirt, being a volunteer is the "coolest" thing in town. Everyone who did not register as a volunteer wishes that he/she had done so... | ||
|
With very best wishes to all of you, |
||
| Dimos | ||
| The photos from the games are from some of the preliminary games that I went to. The pictures from the diving were taken during their training. The athletic parks look empty because I was there very early in the morning. | ||
